Tesco Launch DIY Gardening Equipment For Children

Tuesday, 30 November 1999 00:00

Tesco's have launched a new range of DIY gardening equipment for children. The sets include mini tools, aprons and gloves from as little as £3. Seed kits can also be purchased, complete with instructions on how to grow their own flowers and vegetables.

A spokesperson from Tesco has said that children can achieve a lot with just a few pots or a small patch of ground. He hopes that children will learn about nature and how things grow by using the sets.

Meanwhile experts are calling for warning labels to be put on compost in Scotland after it was linked to three cases of legionnaires disease. It was thought that the victims inhaled moisture from the compost after long periods of exposure while potting.

Potting mix contains labels in Australia and New Zealand where the risk has been recognised. Further cases have also been found in Japan, the US, the Netherlands and Switzerland. The three cases reported in this country occurred in 2008 and 2009.
