DIY Stores To Stop Selling Peat Based Compost

Tuesday, 30 November 1999 00:00

The government is calling for garden centres and DIY stores to stop selling peat based compost within the next ten years.

This would reduce harmful carbon emissions according to The Act for CO2 campaign.

70% of the country's peat stores go towards the compost industry and its production is destroying wildlife habitats and releasing gases into the atmosphere.

The idea is also being backed by TV gardener Diarmuid Gavin.
