Please add your painting & decorating tips to this. - Try Dulux weathershield, which has a 6 year warrenty for windows, fascias & soffits. - Use aluminium wood primer to seal bare wood before undercoat. - Use a quality masonry paint like Dulux, Santex, Crown as the colour will hold for longer and less likely to flake. - Ensure to chaulk/cork up window edges, where glass meets wood especially lower edge. This will keep water out and give less chance of rot devoloping. - If you have any rotten wood in need of repair try windowcare resin products to fix rather than traditional 2 pac filler or splicing. It will give a longer lasting repair and also produce less waste. - Ensure to carry out the painting work once any exposed wood is totally dry. Dont prime bare wood after it has rained the day before as you will be sealing water into the joinery. Steve. www.angliadecor.co.uk painting & decorating contractors |

Hi Jason, you could give it a light rub down with a fine grade sandpaper. Then dust it off and wipe down to remove any grit and dust. Now you have a choice of either a coat of varnish or a coat of woodstain in similar colour. Probably best to use a quality solvent or oil based type as they will last longer and give a more rich finish. Good luck with it, Steve. |
